Event Details
Patricio “Cacahuate” Manuel is the first female-to-male transgender boxer in U.S. history – meaning he
was assigned female at birth, and now lives his life as a man (and competes
in the male boxing division). During his 15 year career as an amateur boxer in the women’s division, Patricio held five national titles and made it to the first-ever women’s Olympic boxing trials in 2012. After coming out as transgender, he took time off to medically comply with USA Boxing regulations for transgender athletes, and got back in the ring – in the men’s division – in 2016, where he won his amateur debut. In December 2018, he won his professional boxing debut against Hugo Aguilar by unanimous decision. On Saturday, March 18, he will return to the ring on a Golden Boy Promotions fight card, against fellow super featherweight Hien Huynh. This is a homecoming for Patricio, who was born and raised in Gardena and spent the first 10 years of his adult life in Long Beach. Cheer him on in the arena, or on social media using the hashtag #LetsGoPat !
